Here we go again: European Beer Star 2020
European Beer Star is one of the most coveted international awards for beer brewers: In 2019, 2,483 beers from 47 countries competed worldwide. Despite the Corona pandemic in 2020, 2,027 beers will be presented – a great challenge for Björn Bleier and his Doemens team, who will meticulously unpack, register, label and classify the beers over the next three weeks. The canopies and cold storage units are in operation and the first beer contestants have already arrived.
Doemens Akademie is not only a strong logistics and implementation service provider, it is also a valued partner of the Association of Private Breweries in Bavaria and an expert in sensory assessment technology. For many years, Dr. Michael Zepf has been responsible for providing accurate descriptions of the beer categories for this important international contest. In addition, Dr. Michael Zepf, head of the Doemens Savour Academy business unit, instructs his “Team Captains” as they navigate new and often confusing categories.
This year there are 70 categories in total, from German-style light beer to non-alcoholic Hefeweizen. The beer styles “Bohemian-Style Session Lager”, “Austrian-Style Märzen”, “Speciality IPA”, “English-Style Strong Ale” and “Non-Alcoholic Hoppy Beer” all represent new categories. On October 8th-9th, the expert tasting will take place at Doemens Academy. In each category, the three best beers will be honored with gold, silver and bronze awards, which will be presented on November 11th, 2020 during the BrauBeviale in Nuremberg.
