The cornerstone for the Doemens 2020 new building project has been set

Yet another milestone achieved

The new building project “Doemens 2020” is a groundbreaking step toward the future, both for Doemens Academy and for the diverse needs of the national and international beverage industry. After the signing of the notarized contract (December 2016) and the ground-breaking ceremony (June 2019), another milestone followed on February 7, 2020 with the ceremonial laying of the cornerstone in the presence of high-ranking representatives from politics, the business community and the beverage industry.

In a construction project laying the cornerstone is a symbolic act, an important sign that construction activities are imminent after the final plans have been submitted. In their welcoming speeches to almost 200 guests, high-ranking politicians from Bavaria, along with Doemens President Georg Schneider, emphasized the significance of the “Doemens 2020” new building project. It is all about Bavaria as a business location, and above all about highly trained specialists in the national and international beverage and food industry. The new building will enable quality training and professional development opportunities at a high level – well into the future.

After the welcome speeches, the cornerstone was officially set. A hollow block containing a cylinder filled with a newspaper, some coins, architectural plans, a Doemens brochure and, of course, a bottle of Doemens beer was laid and then set in concrete. After tapping a beer keg, a toast was raised by all present to celebrate the much-anticipated construction project.

Due to the positive progress of the construction project to date and assuming favourable climate conditions, the move from the current headquarters in Stefanusstrasse to Lohenstrasse in the second half of 2021 is a realistic goal. After completion of the shell construction in late Summer 2020, the interior will be outfitted as planned. By the Spring of 2021, the construction of the beverage pilot plant –  including adjacent laboratories – should be well underway. Soon after, the move will commence.
